Description:
Welcome Long Beach's Varden Hotel, an "urban jewel" that blends the architectural remnants of its unique history with the characteristics of a contemporary California boutique accommodation.  This upscale lodging is located just steps from popular attractions such as the Aquarium of the Pacific, the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center, and the gorgeous California coast.

A California Hotel with a Colorful and Storied Past

Our accommodation, first opened in the 1920s as the "Dolly Varden Hotel," is full of Art Deco details that were popular during Long Beach's golden era.  Legend has it that the hotel was built to accommodate a wealthy man's mistress/circus performer (Miss Dolly Varden herself), who lived in the building's penthouse until her death in the 1950s.

In 1995, the neon sign on the hotel's roof which quaintly states: "Dolly Varden Hotel- Bath in Every Room" was given landmark status.  The most recent renovation of this property preserves the details that made it an icon of Long Beach's resort town heyday; while allowing for the construction of chic, state-of-the-art guest rooms.

Long Beach Boutique Hotel Accommodations

At The Varden Hotel, you'll experience the blending of European-style amenities, California eco-chic design, and high-tech conveniences in each of our 35 guest rooms.  Mini rain showers and low-flow Toto toilets demonstrate the hotel's commitment to conserving resources. Each hallway has 5 old airshafts, which have been transformed into natural light sources, reducing the need for additional electrical power during the day.

Guest rooms all boast 9-foot ceilings, custom-made glass shelves and desks, flat screen HDTVs, designer lighting and furniture, and state of the art individual climate controlled heat and air conditioning. With Simmons Bouvet Island Plush Pillow Top mattresses set atop custom designed platform beds made exclusively for The Varden Hotel, you will feel as if you are sleeping on a cloud.

Bathrooms are sleek and sophisticated with white, round penny mosaic and cultured marble subway tiles that stretch floor to ceiling.  You'll find exquisite, rounded mirrored lights over each sink, created by Designer John Kovac. 300 thread-count sheets and super-plush linens will envelope you in luxury that only a boutique hotel can provide.
